Conflict De-escalation Training
'Practical and contextualised hands-on training to help your team stay calm, communicate effectively and safely manage challenging situations.'

EDUCATE    MOTIVATE    ELEVATE

Course Description

Effective conflict de-escalation begins long before you address the other person. It starts with you, your reactions, your tone, your emotional triggers, and your ability to stay composed under pressure. This training helps participants understand how their own personality traits influence their communication style and stress response, and teaches practical strategies to regulate these reactions in real time.

With this foundation in place, the workshop then focuses on proven de-escalation techniques for calming others, managing escalating emotions and guiding conversations back to safety and resolution. Participants learn how to recognise behavioural cues, set professional boundaries, use steady communication, and apply structured de-escalation steps to minimise conflict.

The result is a confident, capable frontline team equipped to respond to tense situations with clarity, control and professionalism.

What You Will Learn

Training is tailored to your workplace but typically covers:

  • How your own personality traits shape your conflict style;

  • How to identify and regulate emotional triggers before they escalate a situation;

  • Recognising early warning signs and behavioural cues in others;

  • Communication techniques that reduce tension rather than inflame it;

  • Staying calm, steady and objective during difficult interactions;

  • Setting safe, professional boundaries without confrontation;

  • Practical de-escalation strategies to guide conversations away from conflict; and

  • Applying techniques to real workplace scenarios through participant-led examples.

All scenarios and examples are adapted to the real issues encountered at work.

About The Trainer

Mark Field is an experienced facilitator and vocational education leader with a strong background in communication, behavioural awareness and conflict de-escalation. As Managing Director of Access Recognised Training, he has delivered practical training to government agencies, correctional facilities, frontline staff and community organisations across the ACT.

Mark specialises in helping participants understand themselves first, including their communication style, personality traits and emotional triggers. This self-awareness helps them stay composed under pressure and respond with confidence. He teaches participants to recognise early warning signs, regulate their own reactions and apply practical de-escalation techniques that work in real-world situations. His training style is clear, engaging and grounded in workplace experience, making complex concepts easy to understand and apply immediately.

Tailored To Your Workplace

Before the training, we speak with you to understand:

  • The types of conflict your staff experience;

  • Common behavioural challenges;

  • Workplace policies, procedures and expectations;

  • Any previous incidents or ongoing risks; and

  • The culture and communication style of your organisation.

This ensures the training feels relevant, realistic and immediately useful.
