Course Description
Begin your journey into the world of hospitality with this introductory qualification. Ideal for individuals employed or seeking roles in diverse hospitality environments, including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering services, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops.
This qualification is also excellent for people visiting Australia on a Working Holiday visa because it can be completed on-the-job within 4 months and with no need to sit in a classroom.
Course Structure
The total number of Units of Competency to receive this qualification is 12 comprising of 6 core and 6 elective units one of which is a mandatory elective unit. The list of units to be undertaken can be found on the Course Brochure.
Course Delivery Mode
Work-Based Training (WBT) - Flexible delivery, designed for:

an Australian Apprenticeship (Canberra based-traineeship) pathway,

Domestic fee-for-service students or Working Holiday visa students currently working in a fully operational hospitality enterprise anywhere in Australia.

Café Attendant Supports daily café operations, including customer service, food handling, and preparation. Food and Beverage Attendant Assists with table service, food running, and beverage service. Front Office Assistant Provides reception and customer service support in accommodation venues. Gaming Attendant (non-casino) Supports the operation of gaming facilities within clubs and hotels (where permitted). Housekeeping Attendant Maintains cleanliness and presentation of guest rooms and public areas. Kitchen Steward / Catering Assistant Provides support in commercial kitchens, including food preparation and cleaning. Porter Assists guests with luggage and basic hotel services.
Course Duration
3 - 6 months. The course duration will vary depending on the number of credit transfers and the individual progress of each student. At a minimum, students are expected to complete one unit of competency per month.
Admission Requirements

To undertake this qualification with Access Recognised Training you must be employed in a fully operational hospitality environment;

Sound English language, literacy and numeracy skills (ACSF – Level 2);

At least 15 years of age.
Study Pathways
After achieving the SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality, candidates may undertake SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality.
